Twenty members of Bharatiya Janata Party's youth wing were detained by police Tuesday evening when they were marching towards Defence Minister A.K. Antony's house to stage a protest against the killing of five Indian soldiers in Jammu and Kashmir, police said.

Over 500 members of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) had started from Motilal Nehru Place in central Delhi but they were stopped a few meters away from the minister's residence on Krishna Menon Marg, police said.

The protesters led by the BJP youth wing president, Anurag Thakur, climbed the barricades, raising anti-government slogans, police said.

To disperse the crowd, a water cannon was used and 20 protesters, including Thakur, were detained.

"They were taken to Tughlak Road police station and later let off," a police officer said.

In a post-midnight attack, a Non-Commissioned Officer and four soldiers were killed when the attackers, including men in Pakistani military uniform, barged into Indian territory and ambushed an army patrol at Chakan-da-Bagh sector of the Line of Control (LoC), which divides Kashmir between India and Pakistan.
