BJP president Amit Shah on Friday said it was his party that gave the maximum number of OBC chief ministers and the first OBC prime minister to the country, adding that only his party could work for the welfare of backward classes.
"The BJP is the only party that gave the country the maximum number of chief ministers from the Other Backward Classes. The first OBC prime minister (Narendra Modi) to the country was also given by the Bharatiya Janata Party," Amit Shah said here.
Shah was addressing a meeting of the newly formed OBC morcha at the party headquarters.
"Political parties formed for the welfare of backward classes have now been confined to particular communities only. Such parties can never work for the welfare of the backward classes. Only the BJP can do it," the BJP president said.
Shah recently made crucial changes in the party organisation, forming a separate wing for the OBCs, a politically significant group in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh.
