The nomination of Narendra Modi as the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) prime ministerial candidate was celebrated by party workers here Friday by distributing sweets and setting off fireworks on the main thoroughfares of the city.

Groups of BJP workers were waiting at various places, including the Aggarwal Dharamshala and Post Office crossings, and the celebrations began as soon as BJP president Rajnath Singh made the announcement after the parliamentary board meeting.

BJP workers and some passers-by shouted slogans in favour of Modi and against the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government.
