A low-intensity blast occurred in Meghalaya's East Jaintia Hills district on Tuesday but no one was injured, said a police official.
"The bomb was placed at the dustbin on the roadside in Lad Rymbai this afternoon but thankfully no one has been injured... Windowpanes of some houses near the blast site were shattered," district police chief Spill Thamar told IANS.
Lad Rymbai is about 88 km from Shillong.
He said a team of experts from the Meghalaya Forensic Science Laboratory visited the blast site and collected samples from the blast site to ascertain the cause of the blast.
"It is too early to comment. We are looking into all possible angles behind the explosion," Thamar said.
