With an aim to improve the air quality in India, leading air purifier firm Blueair has decided to plant one million trees across the country in the next three years.

The decision was taken as part of Clean Air India Movement (CLAIM), India's biggest anti-pollution awareness campaign. In the initiative, the manufacturers will plant one lakh trees within 2016 in the national capital.

Blueair said in a statement on Wednesday that it will not only ensure the correct plantation but will also ascertain that plants are well taken care of and grow properly.

"We are hopeful that the message will be communicated across India by our plantation drive and will reinforce the importance of reducing air pollution," said Vijay Kannan, India Head of Blueair.

"Such campaigns can help people understand the direct link of air pollution with rising cases of respiratory diseases and nudge them in making lifestyle changes to improve the air quality," he said.

Currently, nearly 90 per cent of CO2 emission is caused by land-use or deforestation, leading to deaths and cases of respiratory illness and asthma. Recent reports reveal that the number of patients with respiratory diseases and allergies has 40 per cent increased since 1990s.
