A 17-year-old student died after falling from the building of a school here, police said on Saturday.

Ravi Verma was studying in a school in Gokalpuri area of east Delhi and fell from the fourth floor on Friday evening.

His father Bijendra, a clerk with Air India, told IANS: "During the school interval, Ravi came home and had lunch. He again went to the school to attend the next classes."

Bijendra alleged that some of Ravi's friends pushed him from the building.

"School authorities informed me that my son fell from the building. I don't know how he died, but his death is not an accident. He was killed... Some of his friends pushed him from the school building," he said.

Police said Ravi Verma was rushed to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to his injuries on Friday night.

"We have registered a case on the basis of the allegation made by the victim's family. We are interrogating the family members and friends of the victim," said a police official.

According to police, school authorities were also being questioned to ascertain whether it was an accident or there was any foul play behind it.

Police said the murder angle cannot be ruled out for now.

When contacted, the school authorities were tight lipped on the issue.
