The 40-year-old son of a Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) legislator shot himself at his home in Chinhat area here on Wednesday, police said.
Vikas Verma was the only son of Lalji Verma who is a former state minister and legislator from Katehri state assembly seat of Ambedkar Nagar in Uttar Pradesh.
Family members rushed him to the trauma centre at the King George's Medical University (KGMU) here but he could not be saved, a family member told IANS.
Vikas, who was reportedly suffering from an abdominal ailment, had made a similar attempt a year back by shooting himself at a gym in Ambedkar Nagar. He was saved that time by timely medical intervention.
He worked with the Mandi Samiti but had resigned. His wife works as a drug inspector with the state government and is posted here.
He had no interest in politics, one of his relatives said.
