Bundesliga: Stuttgart remain winless, Augsburg open account

Augsburg's Halil Altintop and Jan-Ingwer Callsen-Bracker aggravated Stuttgart's negative run following a 1-2 loss while Augsburg broke the spell with the first win of the season against Braunschweig.

Stuttgart suffered their third loss in as many matches as Vedad Ibisevic's converted penalty was not enough to grab the first points of the season Sunday. Augsburg wrapped up the first win of the season after two straight defeats, reports Xinhua.

The hosts caught a bright start as new arrival, and Turkish international Halil Altintop utilised a cross by Paul Verhaegh to poke home at the back post from very close range with just six minutes on the clock.

Stuttgart were unable to gain a foothold into the Southern derby owing to their weak passing game, thus Augsburg added another goal to their lead following a set piece, when Jan Ingwer Callsen Bracker made use of Raphael Holzhauser's cross into the box nine minutes before the interval.

Bruno Labbadia's men reduced the lead to 2-1, Verhaegh brought down Maxim Alexandru inside the box, when Vedad Ibisevic converted from the spot in the 42nd minute. Stuttgart were unlucky in the 70th minute when referee Tobias Welz sent off Ibrahima Traore, six minutes after his fielding, with a straight red card because of a supposed rude foul, which was a wrong decision.

Nevertheless, Stuttgart were not able to level the score before the final whistle to avoid a nightmare start into the new campaign.

Elsewhere, Augsburg sealed their first win when they overcame newly promoted Braunschweig 2-0.

Alexander Meier's deflected shot on target broke the deadlock and extended his Bundesliga goal tally to 50. Stefan Aigner marked the final 2-0 score to celebrate the first win of the season as passive Braunschweig showed no interest to turn things around at outsold Eintracht-Stadium.
