Cancer patient commits suicide in Delhi hospital

A 42-year-old person who was undergoing cancer treatment in a prominent hospital committed suicide on Thursday afternoon by jumping off from stairs of the third floor of a hospital here, the city police said.

The man, identified as Atma Ram, a resident of Sambhal in Uttar Pradesh, was admitted to Institute of Liver and Billary Sciences (ILBS) in South Delhi a week ago.

"Ram sent his wife out to call his brother, Harlal. When his wife went outside to call him, Ram went upstairs on the third floor and jumped from there. Though the hospital staff and his family members noticed him immediately, they could not prevent him from jumping," Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Chinmoy Biswal said.

Ram died due to suspected injury on his head. NO one suspected any foul play in his suicide, Biswal said.
