The country's pilot project for cashless treatment of road accident victims will be launched in Haryana July 28, a state government spokesman said Tuesday.

A project of the union road, transport and highways ministry, the projhect will be started on the Gurgaon-Jaipur section of National Highway No.8 (NH-8). It will be implemented on the stretch from Sirhol toll plaza at Delhi-Gurgaon border (km 24) in Haryana to Chandwaji bypass (km 219) near Jaipur.

The spokesman said that under the project a person has to call toll-free number 1033 in the event of an accident on the identified stretch of the NH-8.

"Any accident victim or passerby or relative or volunteer calls 1033 (call centre number) and informs about the location and details of the accident. The call centre locates the nearest ambulance in the accident's vicinity and dispatches it to the accident spot. The nearby volunteer will be informed to reach the spot and provide necessary first aid," he said.

The ambulance reaching the spot will shift the victim to the nearest empanelled hospital where the victim will get cashless treatment for first 48 hours or up to Rs.30,000.

A total of 43 hospitals have been empanelled for the pilot project on this stretch, the spokesman added.
