A day after holding a meeting with Special Investigation Team and its Special Task Force officials in Bhopal in Madhya Pradesh, the CBI on Wednesday registered three cases in its ongoing probe into the Vyapam scam in the state.

The CBI registered a First Information Report against 21 candidates in the 2010 Pre-Medical Test (PMT) apart from one against eight accused in the 2011 Pre-PG exam.

The third case was registered against 28 persons for alleged illegalities in the Pre-Medical Test held in Madhya Pradesh in 2009 and 2010.

The accused were booked on charges of criminal conspiracy, cheating by impersonation, cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property, forgery of valuable security, forgery for purpose of cheating, using as genuine a forged document and knowing it to be forged, and intending to use it as genuine.

A 40-member CBI team reached Bhopal on Monday following the Supreme Court's order to take over the investigation from the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Madhya Pradesh Police.

According to CBI sources, police teams from Gwalior, Indore and Jabalpur were probing various matters related to the scam.

The STF, set up by the SIT, and police teams handed over many documents related to the probe to the central agency, sources said.

The CBI also summoned the records from superintendents of police at Ujjain, Kanker, Gwalior, Jhabua and Deputy Inspector General of Police at Indore relating to the deaths of Namrata Damore, Vijay Patel, Rajendra Arya, Akshay Singh and Deepak Verma, sources said.

Most of the 45 deaths related to Vyavsayik Pariksha Mandal (Vyapam) or Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board (MPPEB) scam have occurred in the Gwalior-Chambal region of the state over the past few years.

The CBI plans to set up a separate office in Bhopal exclusively to probe the Vyapam scam.
