The CBI on Tuesday registered, on the directions of the Allahabad High Court, two cases against former chief engineer of the Noida authority Yadav Singh on charges of corruption and irregularities.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) also conducted searches at 14 places -- 12 in Noida and Greater Noida and one each in Agra and Firozabad cities in Uttar Pradesh.
The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court on July 16 ordered a CBI probe into charges of corruption and irregularities against Singh.
The Uttar Pradesh government had suspended Singh in the wake of an income tax raid at his residence on November 2014 that unearthed crores of rupees in cash and jewellery, along with several incriminating documents and the Income Tax Returns (ITRs).
Singh's family members and associates have also been named in the FIRs.
The first case has been registered against Singh on the allegation that he along with his family members and associates had amassed huge movable and immovable assets during the period 2009-2014 which were disproportionate to his known sources of income.
The official said the scrutiny of the ITRs and other connecting records of Singh have revealed that the total likely savings of his the family during 2009-2014 was Rs.1.70 crore whereas they were in possession of immovable property worth Rs.3.60 crore.
An amount of Rs.10 crore was also recovered from one of his associates, which also reportedly belonged to Singh, the official added.
The second case has been registered against Singh and other unknown persons.
A case against Singh was also registered at Sector-39 police station in Noida in Uttar Pradesh on June 13, 2012.
