The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Saturday sought the closure report filed by the state CB-CID into the case pertaining to the Noida Authority's former chief engineer Yadav Singh, officials said.

The premier agency which is probing the case of corruption and ill-gotten money against Yadav Singh on instructions of the Allahabad High Court has sought to know why did the CB-CID file a closure report in a Rs.995 crore scam.

The Noida Authority had in 2012, soon after the Samajwadi Party (SP) stormed to power in Uttar Pradesh, had lodged an FIR in Noida against Yadav Singh, accusing him in the scam. However in 2013, the state government moved the probe from police to the CB-CID which in 2015 gave the official a clean chit.

The state government had earlier this week moved the Supreme Court seeking quashing of the high court directive for CBI to probe cases against Yadav Singh but the apex court had dismissed its petition and had rapped it by asking why was it so jittery over the issue.

The Bharatiya Janata Party has accused Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav of compromising on corruption and trying to shield Yadav Singh.
