Information and Broadcasting Minister Manish Tewari Friday said the government has instituted a special "Centenary Award" to honour individuals or films which spark a "paradigm change".

The award would be given every year starting this year, recognising a paradigm transformation in filmmaking and honouring individuals or films that had a profound influence on contemporary socio-cultural evolution, Tewari said at the 60th National Film Awards ceremony at the Vigyan Bhavan, marking the 100th anniversary of Indian cinema.

President Pranab Mukherjee, Communication and IT Minister Kapil Sibal and awardees from Bollywood and regional cinema were present at the event.

The evening was hosted by actors R. Madhavan and Huma Qureshi.
