Centre names new education secretaries

The central government on Friday appointed ministry of women and child development secretary Vinay Sheel Oberoi as secretary, department of higher education, ministry of human resource development, an official statement said.

Oberoi was appointed in place of Satyanarayan Mohanty, a 1980-batch Andhra Pradesh cadre IAS officer, after he relinquished charge of the post.

According to the appointments cleared by the appointments committee of the cabinet, Mohanty was appointed secretary general, National Human Rights Commission.

Additionally, Subhas Chandra Khuntia, a 1981 batch IAS officer of the Karnataka cadre, was appointed secretary, department of school education and literacy in place of Vrinda Sarup, a 1981 batch Uttar Pradesh cadre IAS officer.

Sarup was appointed secretary, department of food and public distribution, ministry of consumer affairs, food and public distribution.

Khuntia was special secretary and financial adviser, ministry of petroleum and natural gas.
