The Uttar Pradesh government has submitted to the Centre a proposal to invest Rs.3,287 crore in various cities pertaining to the state annual action plan under the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT).
"Of this, Rs.1,519 crore will be spent on water supply schemes in 60 mission cities, Rs.1,698 crore on sewerage projects in 24 cities and Rs.70 crore on providing open spaces in 58 cities," an urban development ministry statement said on Sunday.
The state has reported better availability of basic infrastructure compared with the national average for urban areas in Uttar Pradesh.
"The average water supply in these 60 mission cities is reported to be 161 litres per capita per day (LPCD) as against a national average of 70 LPCD for urban areas in the country," the ministry said.
The statement said that 54 percent urban households in these cities had water taps compared with the national figure of 50 percent while 87 percent households had toilets as against 69 percent for urban India.
The ministry would take up Uttar Pradesh's AMRUT action plan for 2015-16 for approval on December 10.
It has so far approved such plans for 286 cities and towns in 13 states.
