Football club Mohammedan Sporting beat Police Athletic Club 1-0 in a Calcutta Football League premier division tie here on Monday.
Deepak scored the only goal of the match for the men in black-and-white as he headed in a cross from defender Bikramjit Singh in the 79th minute.
With the win, Mohammedan climbed to the third spot on the league table with two wins from three outings while it is the second loss for Police AC who are placed at the eighth spot after four games.
It was a contest which witnessed Sporting taking the upper hand from the word go. They created a lot of chances created but failed to break the deadlock in the first half.
Police AC too tried their luck with long balls to striker Eric Brown but he was unable to score.
Eventually as the game was heading towards a stalemate, Deepak found a way past the Police Athletic custodian with a glancing header to settle the issue.
