The Chanshal slopes in Himachal Pradesh's Shimla district would be developed for skiing to promote adventure sports, Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh said on Thursday.
The Chanshal Valley having open vast green pastures is suitable for skiing and other adventure-related activities, an official statement quoting the Chief Minister said.
He said this while presiding over the meeting of the Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Board here.
The Indian Mountaineering Federation highlighted the scope of promoting trekking, paragliding, river rafting and skiing at the Chanshal Pass, located at an altitude of 4,520 m in Dodra Kwar area.
The Chief Minister said compared to the Rohtang Pass in Kullu district, there were more offers for the visitors in the Chanshal Valley and steps should be taken to improve connectivity besides developing other amenities.
At the meeting it was also discussed to provide some relaxation to the ropeway projects for which no bids were received despite inviting expression of interest several times.
These projects include linking Toba with Naina Devi, Shahtalai with Deotsidh, Neugal with Palampur and Sarahan with Bashal Kanda.
Suggestions poured in for developing an adventure park or a golf course in the industrial hub Baddi in Solan district.
It was told at the meeting that the Himachal Pradesh Infrastructure Development Board is in the process to develop ropeway projects, including linking Dharamsala with McLeodganj, Adi Himani temple with Chamunda, Palchan with Rohtang and Bhuntar with Bijli-Mahadev.
