Chennaiyin FC signed goalkeeper Pawan Kumar as a temporary replacement for their regular keeper Karanjit Singh on Tuesday.

Pawan Kumar, who will sport jersey number 28, was signed only for a match (home match against NorthEast United FC on Wednesday) to fill in for Karanjit, who has been called up for India's World Cup qualifying match against Guam to be played on Thursday in Bengaluru.

Chennaiyin's third choice goalkeeper Nidhin Lal has suffered an injury to be ruled out for the match leaving the team with only a fit keeper in Edel Bete, forcing the team to sign Kumar hurriedly, a statement from the club said.

It is mandatory for each ISL club to have three goalkeepers in their squad, of which atleast two goalkeepers are fit for any given match.
