Former Finance Minister P. Chidambaram has hinted that the government decision to allow District Central Cooperative Banks (DCCBs) to deposit demonetised currency may be linked to the Shiv Sena's support to the NDA Presidential candidate.
"Was the midnight notification perfectly timed with garnering support for Presidential candidate?" the Congress leader tweeted, referring to the Monday night gazette notification asking the RBI to accept the old money from DCCBs.
On Monday night, the Shiv Sena made a U-turn and endorsed the candidature of NDA nominee Ram Nath Kovind, a day after describing his choice as caste appeasement.
The Shiv Sena has been urging the government to ensure acceptance of the demonetised currency collected by DCCBs received in the aftermath of demonetisation last year.
