China has confiscated 22,320 fake guns bound for Egypt, the biggest number seized so far this year, official reports said Monday.
Quality and quarantine authorities in Yiwu city in east Zhejiang province suspected that 414 cases of plastic toys about to be be exported to Egypt contained fake guns, Xinhua reported.
The General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine said it found 22,320 plastic machine guns and pistols in 84 cases.
Chinese law on firearms stipulates it is illegal to manufacture and sell fake guns.
Meanwhile, another report by the administration said 86 shipments of substandard imported food were seized in June.
Microorganisms, unqualified food additives and product quality were the major problems found with the imports, which came from 23 countries.
Eight shipments of substandard cosmetic products imported from three countries were also seized due to their substandard quality and use of banned additives.
