A class four student died and 12 of his schoolmates were injured in an accident on the Digha-Contai highway near Chattarapura in East Midnapore district on Tuesday.
"The school bus rammed into a lorry while trying to avoid a collision with a motorcycle that came from the opposite direction. A total of 15 people got injured in the accident, including 13 students and the bus driver." police said.
The injured were rushed to Contai sub-divisional hospital where the class four student was declared dead. The others received the necessary medical attention.
"The injured students are now out of danger. Police are looking into the reason for the accident," said Dibyendu Adhikari, the Trinamool MLA of Kanthi-South constituency.
