Temperatures remained below freezing point throughout the Kashmir Valley Saturday as a severe cold wave swept the plains and the mountains of Jammu and Kashmir.
"The minimum temperature was minus 1.6 degrees Celsius in Srinagar today and minus 11.6 in Gulmarg and minus 7.7 in Pahalgam. It was minus 14.7 degrees in Leh and minus 13.0 in Kargil town of Ladakh region today," an official of the local meteorological department said Saturday.
"In Jammu city, the minimum temperature was 5.5 degrees today. This is three degrees below normal," he said.
"Rain and snow are likely at isolated places in the Valley during the next 24 hours and the present cold wave conditions are expected to continue," the official added.
Most water bodies have started freezing in the Valley. Driving on the roads is difficult as they are covered in frost, especially in the mornings and evenings.
