The cold wave lost some of its bite on the first day of the New Year Thursday, as the temperature climbed a few notches. However, more than four dozen trains were delayed due to overnight fog.
The Met office has forecast a slight climbdown of the winter chill, adding it might rain in some parts of the state, including the state capital.
Railway officials said more than four dozen trains, including Archana Express, Saryu-Yamuna Express, Kota-Patna Express, Punjab Mail, New Jalpaiuri Express, Marudhar Express, Chandigarh Express and Avadh-Assam Express, were running late.
Many flights were delayed Wednsday but officials at the Chaudhary Charan Singh Airport said they hoped for a "near normal" day Thursday as the visibility had improved.
