The Congress Friday submitted a memorandum to Maharashtra Governor C.V. Rao alleging irregularities by the BJP government when it won a trust vote in the assembly.
A delegation led by Congress leader Radkakrishna Vikhe-Patil and other legislators met Rao to lodge their protest against the voice vote.
The delegation explained the manner in which the proceedings were conducted that day, and how the opposition was not permitted to have its say on the demand for a poll instead of a voice vote.
Accordingly, the delegation said it was not clear whether the minority BJP government enjoyed the backing of 145 legislators in the house.
The Congress demanded that Governor Rao should seek details of the day's proceedings and direct the Devendra Fadnavis government to secure a fresh floor test.
Until this was done, all its decisions should be suspended and it must e prevented from taking any new decisions.
"The government has no constitutional legitimacy. As the process of voice vote remains incomplete, it is not clear how many voted in favour and how many against. The governor must ask the BJP to prove its majority in the house," the delegation said.
On Thursday, the Shiv Sena led a delegation to the governor and lodged a similar complaint.
