The Congress on Wednesday expressed concern over terrorist attacks, saying the Udhampur terror strike was the second blatant attack in the past 10 days.

"It is not even 10 days and the country has witnessed two blatant terrorist attacks," Congress spokesman Randeep Singh Surjewala said at a press conference here.

He said "signals continue to emanate" that the Narendra Modi government was soft on terror.

"The Congress is forced to wonder about the Pakistan policy of the (BJP-led central) government," Surjewala said.

For the first time after the 2008 Mumbai terror attack, Indian security forces on Wednesday captured a Pakistani terrorist shortly after militants killed two BSF troopers in Udhampur, Jammu and Kashmir.

Surjewala said: "We salute the three villagers of the Gramin Suraksha Samiti who helped in capturing a terrorist."

"This is a serious issue specially when the reports say Amarnath Yatra was the target of the attack. The Congress has serious concern on that as well," he said.

Besides, Surjewala said there was a need to make a re-evaluation of national security, specially after the Ufa statement on terror and increase in ceasefire violations by Pakistan.

"We are in favour of talks with the neighbour, but want to remind the prime minister of his own statement that talks cannot be held in the noise of blasts," he added.
