The Congress' West Bengal unit brought out a protest rally here out on Monday, as part of the 'Jan Aakrosh Diwas' announced by the country's opposition parties to to protest against the central government's demonetisation move.
Congress supporters from the metropolis and the districts led by their state president Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, walked from the Bengal Pradesh Congress head office Bidhan Bhavan to Park Circus in central Kolkata, raising slogans against the Narendra Modi government.
"Our protest against central government's thoughtless decision that has plunged the nation into total chaos, would continue in the days to come," Chowdhury said in a press conference ahead of the rally.
"While we are not against the central government's motive in curbing black money and corruption, we strongly condemn the lack of decisiveness and clarity from them in handling the situation. We haven't seen such a decision-less government in the country," he said terming Prime Minister Narendra Modi as an incarnation of Delhi Sultan Muhammad bin Tughlaq.
The Congress leader also appealed to the Trinamool Congress government to take emergency measures for helping the common man.
"The working class people of the state are starving. We want the state government to provide them food, fuel and other necessary amenities at a low cost through the public distribution system," Chowdhury said.
"The farmers, tea garden workers, factory labours in the state are suffering so much. They don't have cash to run their family. The state government also have certain responsibility to help the poor working class," he added.
