A Punjab Police Constable shot himself during a Republic Day function on Friday in Jagraon, 155 km from here, police said.
Head Constable Manjit Ram, 45, shot himself with his AK-47 service weapon as the R-Day function was on at the Government Senior Secondary School in the town.
He was rushed to the Civil Hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.
Police sources said he seemed to be under stress due to some family issues.
He is survived by his wife, two sons and mother.
The police handed over the body to the family after a post-mortem.

Station House Officer Inderjit Singh Boparai, with whom Manjit was posted as gunman, said he looked normal and happy before the incident.
Police said they are probing the incident.
