Construction of a new Indian embassy complex in Bahrain, which will accommodate up to 500 people, has officially started with a ground-breaking ceremony.
The foundation stone of the embassy complex in Seef, a suburban district in Bahrain capital Manama, was laid by Minister of External Affairs Salman Khurshid Sunday, Gulf Daily News reported Monday.
Khurshid was accompanied by Bahrain's Foreign Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed Al Khalifa.
Covering approximately 7,800 square metres, the building will contain staff quarters, a library, a consular hall and an auditorium.
The plot was purchased by the Indian government in 2005.
The new embassy complex will cost around 2.8 million Bahraini dinar (about $7.4 million) and will take about 15 months to complete.
