Jammu and Kashmir Police Thursday arrested a police constable involved in drug smuggling from mountainous Rajouri district, an officer said.
Rajouri's Superintendent of Police (SP) Mubassir Latifi told reporters that the constable was caught at a special check-post in Rajouri town while he was travelling with an associate, also a policeman, in a car.
"On seeing the police party, senior constable Imtaiz Ahmed fled from the spot, while constable Shah Nawaz Ahmed was nabbed," Latifi said.
"About 1,010 Proxivan capsules and 180 bottles of Corex syrup were recovered from him," he added.
Latifi said that both the policemen had "controversial past and were transferred out of the district for their dubious activities". "They used to visit Rajouri but were under our strict surveillance," he said.
Police have registered a case against the duo and hunt is on to nab Imtiaz Ahmed.
