A court here has allowed a plea by the NIA seeking proceedings against suspected Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist Abu Jundal to be conducted via video conferencing, court sources said on Thursday.

District Judge Amar Nath on Wednesday allowed the NIA plea.

The National Investigation Agency, in an application moved last month, said the Maharashtra government apprehends that Jundal could be killed or kidnapped by rivals during his transit from jail to court.

The court directed the NIA to take necessary steps for conducting proceedings through video conferencing.

Jundal's counsel M.S. Khan opposed the plea saying that if the trial is conducted through video conferencing, the defence would be adversely affected as there will be no proper communication between the client and his counsel.

Jundal is lodged in the Arthur Road Jail in Mumbai.

The NIA filed a charge sheet against Jundal in Delhi for conspiring to carry out terrorist activities in India, including the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks.
