West Bengal's opposition Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) Sunday said it will undertake sustained mass movements across the state in protest against the ruling Trinamool Congress-perpetrated attacks on democracy and the resultant lawlessness.
During the two-day state committee meeting of the party which concluded Sunday, the party observed that a sustained mass movement was imperative to strengthen its base besides fighting against issues like price rise, the "terror tactics" of Trinamool and others.
"In view of the next Lok Sabha elections, it is imperative to rev up the organisation at the grassroots level. Public discontent against the incumbent government is on the rise and we have to work on this build up this discontent," politburo member and former chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee said during the meeting.
Presided over by Leader of Opposition Surjya Kanta Mishra, the meeting was attended by 38 state committee members.
During the meeting, state secretary Biman Bose urged party members to stand against the violent tactics of the ruling party which it employed to extract favorable results in polls.
"We need to carry out sustained mass movement against price rise, for the cause of the farmers who are not getting minimum support price for their produce, for those who have been duped by the chit fund scam as well as the continuous attack on people's democratic rights," said Bose.
