We need to create more weapons for peace and not new weapons for war, former French prime minister Dominique de Villepin said on Saturday.
Speaking at a session on "Creating a peaceful world of tomorrow" at the World Culture Festival here, de Villepin said that violence begets more violence and waging war was not the right answer to counter terrorism and violence.
"We need to create more weapons for peace and not new weapons for fighting war. The western world is happy creating new technologies, new weapons, making drones, fighting wars without being seen. This is not going to be the right answer," the former premier said.
"When people have no future, they resort to violence. I think the right answer is to give them a future, create infrastructure, give education, make bridges, airports, roads and trains," he added.
He also said that world institutions like the United Nations, the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank were losing relevance in making the world better and peaceful as they were not in sync with today's realities.
"The UN has not evolved since its inception after World War II, the IMF has not changed, no reform, the World Bank has not changed, no reform. These institutions are not in sync with the realities of our world.
"The western world is dominating the planet. One of the most important problems of today is the imbalance of power," he added.
