Actress Raveena Tandon says that it is important to teach children good values as lack of it leads to crime against women.
"In current circumstances when domestic violence against women is increasing in our society, we should find out its root cause. The law must be strong for those who commit crimes," she said.
"Secondly, women should teach good values to their children. Our children should learn how to respect women," said Raveena, who was at the Hinduja hospital here along with veteran actress Moushumi Chatterjee to celebrate Women's Day.
Having adopted two girls even before she got married, Raveena has been a trendsetting mother.
Crimes against women have been on the rise in the country. Some cases like the Nirbhaya gang rape in 2012 led to intense discussions on formulating a stronger law to prevent such crimes.
One of the offenders in the case was a minor. A new law was passed in the Rajya Sabha last year lowering the age of offenders from 18 to 16 so that they can be tried in court for crimes like rapes.
"Young generation should spend more time on sports and other activities. If youth is unfocused, violence against women will rise. While women are worshiped as goddesses in our country, they are also being violated at homes. It is a symptom of mental sickness," said veteran actress Moushumi Chatterjee.
There is also the need for women in our country to teach their children to respect others, so that they grow up with good values," added Chatterjee, who recently played a lively, honest and compassionate aunt in 'Piku'.
