Following the attack on a Pakistani prisoner in a Jammu jail by a fellow inmate Friday, authorities in Punjab have imposed curbs on the movement of Pakistani prisoners lodged in jails in Punjab for their safety.
Punjab's Jails Minister Sarwan Singh Phillaur said that the security of all the 57 Pakistani prisoners languishing in Punjab jails had been beefed up.
"As a precautionary measure, they are not being allowed to move out their barracks," Phillaur said.
Expressing concern over the attack on a Pakistani prisoner in Jammu jail, the minister said that 28 out of 38 Pakistani prisoners lodged in Amritsar jail had already completed their terms. He added that these prisoners have been lodged in a transit camp within the jail.
Pakistani national Sanaullah was critically injured Friday morning in an alleged assault on him inside Jammu's Kot Bhalwal jail after being assaulted by a fellow Indian inmate.
He was admitted to the intensive care unit of the Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) here Friday evening, hospital sources said.
