A website, Documentation of the Oppressed (DOTO), which documents religion-based hate crimes, was launched here on Wednesday.
The website tracks religion-based hate crimes from the time the current National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government came to power by collecting data from English national media and fact finding reports.
Currently, the website has data of around 489 incidents and 2,670 victims.
Vipul Kumar, one of the members of the executive team of the website, said that they track crimes due to religious reasons, irrespective of the religion of the victim.
Kumar told IANS that they even have cases in which the victims were Hindus and the crime was committed by Muslims with religious motives.
He added that most of the cases were crimes against Muslims by right wing Hindu groups.
