Dayanidhi Maran quizzed by CBI, called again on Thursday

Former communications minster Dayanidhi Maran was on Wednesday questioned by the CBI for seven hours in a case registered against him for using over 700 high data capacity telecom lines at his Chennai residence and has been called on Thursday for another round.

On Wednesday, Maran reached the Central Bureau of Investigation headquarters in New Delhi at 11 a.m. and the questioning went for around seven hours, an agency official said.

"Dayanidhi Maran has been called again for questioning on Thursday in connection with the alleged illegal telephone lines installed at his residence. The number of lines is 770 and not around 300," the official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, told IANS.

He said in the FIR, it has been mentioned that there were over 300 illegal high speed BSNL lines at the DMK leader's Boat House residence, but it turns out to be 770 lines including of other telecom players.

According to him, the probable loss to the nation is around Rs.1.8 crore.

The official said Maran was earlier questioned on the matter in October 2014 and in January this year.

On Tuesday, Maran had obtained anticipatory bail from Madras High Court.
