Delhi Commission for Women (SCW) chief Swati Maliwal on Friday urged Police Commissioner B.S. Bassi to register an FIR against BJP legislator O.P. Sharma in Alka Lamba stone pelting case.

"Swati Maliwal wrote a letter to Delhi police commissioner urging him to register an FIR against the BJP MLA for his disgraceful remarks against Lamba," a commission official told IANS.

The move came after the DCW sought a legal opinion of SHO, Kashmere Gate reply in Lamba's case.

Maliwal wrote: "During proceedings SHO Kashmere Gate gave a written reply stating that no cognizable offence is made out in Alka Lamba's complaints, hence no FIR can be filed on the complaint of stone pelting of Lamba and on the public statements of O.P. Sharma against Lamba."

"The commission then sought a legal opinion on the reply filed by the SHO. In the opinion it is clear that a case under charges of attempt to commit culpable homicide is made out.

"On the second complaint against the public statements of O.P. Sharma, offences under charges of word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman are made out.

"It is evident that an FIR should have been registered in both instances. I urge you to immediately intervene and ensure that FIRs are filed in these cases at the earliest," Maliwal said in her letter.

Aam Aadmi Party leader Lamba suffered a head injury after a 19-year-old boy, working at a sweet shop, allegedly hurled a stone at her during her anti-drug drive at Kashmere Gate on August 9. The assailant was later arrested.
