The death toll has risen to 17 with six others missing in a landslide in Myanmar's Kayah state, official sources said on Tuesday.

The victims include seven women.

Triggered by torrential rain on Sunday, the landslide buried 60 houses in the hilly region between Mawchi Taung Paw village and Lokhalo village.

Rescue work has been underway with the opening of relief camps in two schools and one hospital to accommodate more than 360 inhabitants in the landslide-hit area, the sources said.
