Serbian international defender Matija Nastasic will remain with FC Schalke 04 until the end of the 2018-19 season, the German Bundesliga club announced on Wednesday.
Schalke decided to pay Manchester City 9.5 million euros for the buyout option for the defender, who moved to Schalke during the winter break from City, reports Xinhua.
"I am proud and happy that I am staying with Schalke," said the 21-year-old.
The Serbian had strong showings in seven Bundesliga matches and two Champions League games against Real Madrid, which convinced Schalke to keep the player.
Nastasic, who has earned 17 caps for Serbia, moved from Italian club Fiorentina to City at the end of August 2012. Last season, he helped the English Premier League club to the league and cup titles.
