Delhi, north India to see heavy showers in next two days

Heavy showers are expected across north India, including Delhi, in the next two days that will compensate the deficit rainfall so far, the Met Office and private weather forecaster Skymet said on Tuesday.

"The northern states of Delhi, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh shall see heavy showers in the coming two days," Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) official Charan Singh told IANS.

Skymet also had the same weather prediction for north India.

Skymet chief G.P. Sharma told IANS that they are expecting "good showers" all across the country, especially north India, over the next couple of days. Sharma added the "large deficiency" of rainfall faced by Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and other north Indian states so far will be compensated in the coming days.

The north and northwestern parts of the country experienced about 7 percent deficit in rainfall till June 23, Sharma said.

Till June 23 the country, mostly western, central and southern India, received about 136.4 mm of rainfall, more than the normal of 110.8 mm - contributing to a 23 percent surplus of rainfall.

South India has experienced a 33 percent surplus rainfall till June 23, while central India received an excess of 51 percent.

Eastern and northeastern parts of the country also received 4 percent surplus rainfall so far, Sharma added.
