The Aam Aadmi Party government in Delhi on Wednesday announced that it would send 250 mentor teachers to Singapore for education and skill training.
The government said that through this training programme it aimed to improve the quality of education being imparted in government schools here.
"Mentor teachers are a group of about 200 teachers, who support and assist peers from five-six schools each," a Delhi government official told IANS, adding that they would be sent on a week-long course to the National Institute of Education in Singapore.
The move is part of the government's teachers training initiative. The course will consist of classroom training, school visits, interaction with teachers, and others.
"Mentor teachers will reach Singapore in two-to-three batches. Nearly 100 mentor teachers will go this year (2016), while the rest will go next year (2017)," the official added.
The first batch is likely to leave for Singapore in November, he said.
After returning from Singapore, these mentors will train the teachers of all Delhi government-run-schools to improve the standard of education here.
However, this is not the first such initiative by the AAP government.
It had sent a group of the principals to the Cambridge University in Britain for training and interaction with the teachers and specialists in July-August to bring significant changes in the school curriculum.
In the budget of the current financial year, the Delhi government has allocated Rs 102 crore for international training of principals and teachers.
