Commuters had a tough time on Wednesday as traffic was hit on most roads to facilitate the movement of VVIPs for the funeral of President Pranab Mukherjee's wife Suvra Mukherjee.

"Yesterday (Tuesday), we had issued a traffic advisory here to avoid the stretch from Moolchand towards Lodhi flyover on the Lala Lajpat Rai Marg between 8.30 a.m. and 11.30 a.m," a Delhi Traffic Police official told IANS.

Commuters faced problems due to the huge traffic piled up on the alternate routes suggested by the Delhi Traffic Police.

"My job involves being in the field and meeting people. Due to the huge jam I couldn't meet a couple of clients," Shadab Shaikh, a sales and marketing professional, told IANS.

Another commuter missed her flight after bing stuck in jam near Barapullah elevated road for over an hour.

"I had to take a flight to Mumbai at 10 a.m. but I missed it due to the heavy jam at Barapullah flyover. It took me more than an hour to cross the flyover," said Vidisha Raina, a software engineer.

A senior traffic police official said: "A bus on the Kalindi Kunj flyover broke down leading to more congestion on the Sarita Vihar-Kalindi Kunj road. Another bus broke down and caused an obstruction near the Moolchand flyover."
