Hockey India (HI) on Monday awarded Devindar Walmiki Rs.1 lakh for scoring a goal on his international debut, helping his side beat France 3-2 in their Hockey World League (HWL) Semi-Final opener here on Sunday.
The 23-year-old from Mumbai is the younger brother of Yuvraj Walmiki, who has been a regular in the Indian team. While Yuvraj plays in the forward line, Devindar is a promising defender.
"HI is extremely delighted on Devindar Walmiki's dream debut and very happy with his performance in the first match. Devindar is a disciplined player and has an impressive track record throughout his junior career," HI General Secretary Mohd. Mushtaque Ahmad said.
