Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit Monday pulled up Director General (Prisons) Vimla Mehra for a recent clash among inmates in Tihar Jail, which left one person dead and eight others injured.
"The chief minister told the Tihar Jail DG to take steps to prevent incidents of clashes among the prisoners. The government will not tolerate such lapses in future," a Delhi government official said.
In a meeting, Dikshit reviewed the present security situation in the jail and asked Mehra to submit to the government a blueprint on improving the security within the premises.
"The authorities at Tihar Jail have been asked to prepare the draft taking into consideration the lapses," the official added. The jail officials were asked to keep the CCTVs and mobile phone jammers in the premises functional.
"The authorities have also been told to keep a close eye on the movement and activities of inmates especially convicts of dreaded criminal cases," the official said.
A clash between inmates of the Tihar Jail May 3 left one dead and eight injured.
Javed, 27, died in the clash, reported to be result of an ego clash among the inmates.
