The government will be implementing direct benefit transfer for LPG (cooking gas) subsidy in 54 districts from Nov 10 to Jan 1, 2015, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said Saturday.
Briefing the media here after a cabinet meet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Jaitley said that under the central government's "Jan Dhan Yojana", 6.02 crore bank accounts have been opened
The target is to open seven crore bank accounts, he added.
"In addition to the Aadhar platform, all those with bank accounts will get LPG subsidy to their accounts directly," Jaitley said.
He said that the quantum of subsidy will be decided by the government.
"For those who have neither Aadhar nor any bank account, the old cylinder system will be available to them for some time."
