A disabled minor was allegedly raped by a gang of four people in a vehicle here, police said Monday. One man has been arrested.
The driver of the vehicle was arrested Monday in connection with the crime that occurred in the Chitpur area in north Kolkata Sunday night.
A case has been registered based on a complaint lodged by a local resident who spotted the girl early Monday morning in a lorry surrounded by four men.
"We have received the complaint, and a case has been registered. We have arrested the driver," Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) P.K. Ghosh said.
The girl is not a position to talk, he said.
She was taken to R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital for treatment. But the medical tests were not conducted as she is not in a position to cooperate.
Police are trying to ascertain the mental status of the girl.
Opposition leader Surjya Kanta Mishra accused the state government of trying to "suppress and cover up" the issue.
