A dispute between two shop employees triggered the knife attack that killed five people in central China, local police announced Saturday.

A knife fight broke out between Hebir Turdi and Memet Abla, two staffers in a bakery, at around 10.15 a.m. at Shahuqiao Market in Changsha City, the capital of Hunan province, Friday, Xinhua reported.

Investigation by the police showed 21-year-old Turdi started to work at the bakery after he arrived at Changsha Feb 1. He quarrelled a lot with his colleague Abla, who is 22-years-old, and often disobeyed the boss. He was fired Wednesday morning.

Turdi argued with Abla again at around 10 a.m. Friday and the two then started chasing each other on the street, both holding a knife from the bakery.

Abla was hacked to death by Turdi, who later hacked four passers-by as he ran away. Police arrived at the scene two-and-a-half minutes later and shot Turdi as he tried to flee and assault the police.

Two of the passers-by died on the spot. The other two died in hospital.
