Delhi Jal Board (DJB) has decided to abolish infrastructure charges for commercial water connections, Delhi Water Minister Kapil Mishra said on Monday.
Mishra added that DJB has decided to introduce two simple slabs under which one can apply for commercial water connections.
"For less than 50,000 square feet area, one can just pay Rs 45,000 to get commercial water connection. If the area is larger, one can simply pay Rs 1 lakh for the connection.
"Earlier, there were different rates going upto Rs 10 lakh for a connection. Tis move will promote ease of doing business," Mishra said.
The decisions were taken during the board meeting of the DJB held here on Monday.
Mishra added that DJB is approaching a big milestone of reaching 20 lakh metered connections.
"DJB now has the largest ever number of metered connections in Delhi at 19.54 lakh," said the minister, who is also the DJB chairman,.
He added that the government has also decided to build six new water bodies in Delhi.
"Two new water bodies of 35 acres will be developed in Dwarka and will add 10-15 MGD to Delhi's water production. Similarly, 4 water bodies will be developed in Rithala, Rohini Sector-25, Nilothi and Kondli," Mishra said.
He also announced extension of late payment surcharge (LPSC) waiver scheme till January 31 under which, commercial customers can pay their pending bills without any late fee.
