Union Minister Jitendra Singh on Thursday said any rule which tends to create inconvenience or harassment for common people should be dropped.

The minister was speaking at a workshop here on implementation of e-Office in central ministries and departments which was organised by the department of administrative reforms and public grievances (DARPG).

The minister further said that bureaucrats are liable to promote many initiatives started by the government such as self-attestation of documents for official works and others, to promote easy and effective governance.

"E-office is something which has been happening for long. This is a global phenomenon. We are rather late in it," said Jitendra Singh, who is the minister of state (MoS) for personnel, public grievances and pensions.

The minister said the advantages of e-office or computerisation of office procedures will reduce red-tapism from the system.

Jitendra Singh added that over 60,000 files, which were of no use, have been digitised in his ministry alone.
